The aim of this course is to improve students’ listening/speaking, reading/writing skills of English language and to prepare them to take C&G ESOL Assessment and Literacy 1 test. I will teach the students how to ask and give information at work, how to look for a job, how to apply for a job, to fill job applications, to get prepared for job interviews etc. L1 learners will be engaged in discussions, making presentations and also learning how to use vocabulary appropriate to their levels, such as linking words, variety of terms. Students will learn how to use different tense forms while speaking and writing.
They will learn how to fill the forms, write letters, and short texts. They will learn to read different texts from different sources, such as leaflets, tickets, books, newspapers, magazines etc.

1 session– Course will begin with filling the enrolment papers, and information about WEA and health and safety issues.

• 4 session– Jobs today and where to look for them
• 5 session– Jobs you like
• 6 session– Midcourse Review
• 7 session– Different kind of jobs
• 8 session– Describing people/ appearance, personality, ability.
• 9 session– Telephone conversations/ interview skills
• 11 session– Getting ready for interviews
• 12 session– Final review/Exam to take
As a result of this course it may be possible for you to:
Learners will be learning new vocabulary related to jobs and employments;
Be able to describe work experiences using Past simple, Present Simple, Present Perfect continues;
Learn about UK job industry and compare it to one from your own country;
Learn how to describe your personality and ability using different kind of adjectives.
Learn about different jobs in the UK, improve your job vocabulary and also how to describe the jobs.
Learn how to get and give information on the phone about the jobs
Write CV and fill job application forms
Students will be learning four skills of particular topic in one session. They will be listening to listening tasks and role-play for speaking.
They will be reading several of texts, including simplified brochures, leaflets, college prospectus, newspaper advertisement, etc.
Visual aids, grammar worksheet will be used, handouts will be used.
Pre Entry learners will be using magnetic letters of alphabet to memorize;
They will be introduced the writing frames for writing tasks, such as, forms, application, letter layout, etc.
Learners will be encouraged to do activities in smaller groups as well as with whole group. Group work, pair work, and individual work will be used nearly in every session; Practicing learning on Internet ESOL sites will be widely used; Videos, news, pictures from Internet might be used for learning purposes;
Through quizzes, discussions, learner presentations and a variety of set assignments, the tutor will ensure that learners are making progress. Online assessments may be used in this course.
Initial assessments will be used at the beginning of the course to find out learners’ level;
Midcourse Review session will be held during the 6th session to check learners’ progress;
Final assessments will be held at the last session to check the achievements;

Recommended books, materials or equipment Learners may also find it helpful to have a wallet folder to store handouts and own notes, as well as to store writing materials.
