ESOL is a general English course which covers all aspects of communication in English. Its basis is to provide realistic examples of the language as it would be encountered through life in Britain. It is especially designed to suit adults from other countries whom now living in the UK wish to improve their general English skills. This can assist in all aspects of daily life as well as helping towards achievement of the British Citizenship test, visa applications or job applications.

Course aims
To improve students Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills in the English language and to prepare them to take C&G ESOL assessment in these 4 skills.

 Topics to be covered
• Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing

Learning outcomes
As a result of this course it may be possible for you to:
• Describe your things and people using correct adjectives
• Speak about news events and daily life
• Achieve daily tasks at intermediate level more easily
• Hold conversations with more confidence, using correct grammar etc.
• Ask for and give personal information
• Understand more from reading newspapers & watching TV news reports
• Apply for jobs and training in the UK
• Write a letters, reports and notes so they are easily understood

Teaching/learning methods
Group discussions, role play, practical demonstrations, small group work, worksheets and individual support as needed. Students will use the internet, brochures, news papers etc as resources in learning.

Assessment methods Initial & Diagnostic Assessments, mid-course review and final assessment may lead to accredited examinations in ESOL [City & Guilds/OCR]

Previous learning required
Learners with any level of language will be accepted. No previous study of English required although any such will be helpful.

Recommended books, materials or equipment
A loose leaf folder, a pen, a notebook. All text based materials are provided.

Progression
Learners may progress through all ESOL levels
Entry Levels 1,2,3
Level 1,2.
