Hi I’m Ceri and I love maths! Isn’t it reassuring that half of 10 will always be five and that if you can find half of 10 you can use the same process to find 1/245th of 625? (with the help of a calculator as well maybe). I get a buzz from helping my learners to do the same.
My lessons are generally pretty relaxed – sometimes more like a coffee morning- but hopefully the learners are having fun learning maths and gradually they get more confident with numbers and before they know it they are showing others in the group how to do it – brilliant!
I also teach literacy as I am passionate about reading and particularly love libraries – all those free books and magazines on absolutely everything – how could you resist? (They even build them with coffee shops too now I hear).
Writing down what you want to say is never easy even when you’ve been doing it for years, so helping others to develop that skill is very rewarding.
My guilty secret is a crush on doctors in American medi dramas – Dr Green in ER or Dr House in House – and the faster they can say the medical terminology the better!
