<p><strong>The aims of the course </strong></p>
<p>The aim of this course is to introduce blogs and blogging and how they can be used by small business as websites.</p>
<p>This course is for people who need to run a website on behalf of a small company. It covers setting up a WordPress.com blog, writing a post, customising a blog to make it work for you, sharing editorial control and promoting your work.</p>
<p>WordPress is a free system with no hosting costs and can act as either a company blog or website. If you are thinking of having a website made then do this course first, the site you will make as part of this course can be your company website or act as a valuable learning experience to commission a smarter site elsewhere.</p>
<p>The will be some out of session work on this course but it is not conditional to course completion.</p>

<p><strong>The WEA</strong></p>
<p>The Workers’ Educational Association - also known as the WEA - is the UK’s largest voluntary-sector provider of adult education. We were founded in 1903, in order to support the educational needs of working men and women who could not afford to access further or higher education. The WEA run over 10,000 part-time adult education courses each year.</p>

<p>The tutor can provide you with information about what you can do next with the WEA and other local providers. A Giving Information and Advice county leaflet is available with useful local information. What Next? leaflets are available from your tutor to help you with your choices. If you would like to discuss what options are available or how to obtain guidance, please contact your tutor.</p>
<p>This course could lead to an organisation owning and maintaining its own online communications platform in the form of a WordPress website.</p>
<p><strong>Notes</strong></p>
<p><strong>The course takes half an hour for lunch. There is a corner shop within striking distance and a community café on site however many previous learners have found it useful to bring a packed lunch.  </strong></p>
<p><strong>You are welcome to bring your own laptop to work on. We do have computers available to work on if you prefer not to. </strong></p>

<p>There are no special books to read for this course. Further reading will be online and then be the choice of the individual.</p>

<p>Is to meet the needs of a professional interpreter to achieve a recognised qualification (OCN Level 2) to work in the community in public services.  The course will prepare members of local linguistic communities for relevant paid work.  Learners must have good English written skills (GCSE or equivalent) and fluent in a language of one of the local linguistic communities. Learners must have completed Introducing interpreting Level 1.</p>

<p><strong>COURSE OUTLINE</strong></p>
<p><strong>The aims of the course </strong></p>
<p>An introduction to community interpreting in community and public services.  The course will prepare members of local linguistic communities for relevant voluntary work.  Learners must be fluent in English and in a language of one of the local linguistic communities.</p>

<p>Working as a community interpreter</p>
<p><strong>Learning outcomes</strong></p>
<p><em>As a result of attending this course it may be possible for you to:</em></p>
<p>Prepare a 5 minute presentation</p>
<p>List skills of a community interpreter</p>
<p>List departments within a local council</p>
<p>Public service provisions in education from 3 till 18 years</p>
<p>Specialist terminology used in interpreting</p>
<p>Organise a portfolio</p>

<p><strong>Assessment methods</strong></p>
<p>Through quizzes, discussions, learner presentations and a variety of set assignments, the tutor will ensure that learners are making progress. Completion of a portfolio.Feedback on presentation.</p>

<p>Learners must be fluent in English and in a language of one of the local linguistic communities.</p>

<p><strong></strong>The tutor will provide handouts. All resources will be provided.</p>

<p><strong></strong>The tutor can provide you with information about what you can do next with the WEA and other local providers. A <em>Giving Information and Advice</em> county leaflet is available with useful local information. <em>What Next?</em>  Learners have the option of doing the advanced Level 2 &amp; 3 of interpreting.Leaflets are available from your tutor or programme organiser to help you with your choices. If you would like to discuss what options are available or how to obtain guidance, please contact your programme organiser.</p>
